Here is my latest attempt at an online photo album. I have spent quite a bit of time trying to improve the appearance and functionality of the original site, the navigation of which I realised was rather difficult to follow; I hope I have succeeded! You may notice that some of the albums featured are rather lacking in content. This is mainly because, when I was in these parts of the world I was in a transition period between film and digital photography and did not yet fully trust my digital camera, so I only used it for the irrelevant shots. Nowadays, every shot I take is either with my trusty Canon EOS 40D (replacement for my EOS 20D which has been converted to infrared) or my Canon iXUS 950IS.
The templates for all the older photo albums featured on this site have been
produced using a very neat piece of software called Web
Album Generator, I highly recommend this, even if you do not intend to produce
a web site, this small package will produce photo albums which can be accessed
via a LAN or from a local drive (such as a CD Rom). Newer albums have (will
be) produced using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, which can easily create a very
neat flash type album.
The flash text animations have been produced using Anim-FX,
like Web Album Generator, this is an extremely easy to use and a very powerful
piece of software which will produce animations such as those on this page in
a matter of seconds.
The Google Maps API is a very powerful and configurable utility,
however a good knowledge of javascript is needed to get it to do what you want.
Since my programming skills are none existent, I had to get a lot of help from
forums and some very willing, and more knowledgeable work colleagues.
I've recently purchased a GPS logging device in an attampt
to automatically geotag photo's. I'll see how that goes and post results here.

In an attempt to improve my photographs I have recently attended various digital photography courses. These have all been very good, and have exceeded my expectations.
The first consisted of two, one day courses run by Going Digital, one on "Using Your Digital SLR Camera" and the other on "Lanscape and Travel Photography". Both these courses were taken by Jean Napier who is a professional photographer, a qualified mountain leader and a very good tutor.
The second course was a four day residential affair held in the Snowdonia National Park. This was very well run by Digital Masterclass and covered not only taking the photographs, but also presenting them and basic manipulation. I was so impressed with this course that I'm definately going to sign up for some of their future ones. The two tutors on this course (Paul Andrew and Brian Beecroft) were very good and were able to help everybody who attended achieve fantastic results .
